Falafel is a deep-fried patty or ball made from a paste of grounded chickpeas. Some people even use fava beans and sometimes use the paste of both the beans in equal proportions. The beans or chickpeas are soaked overnight and then ground into a coarse paste the next day along with garlic, onions and parsley. Later, finely chopped coriander leaves are added to enhance the taste. Some even use cumin to add some flavor. These deep fried balls are called falafels. These days, the health conscious tribe is experimenting with the baked versions of the delicacy and it does taste equally good.

Shawarma is a Middle Eastern dish made of meat cut into very thin slices, stacked in a cone-like shape and roasted on a slow-turning vertical rotisserie. It is mostly made from lamb, mutton, chicken or beef. These skewered bits of meat are then added to garlic puree and salad and then wrapped in pita bread. It is one of the most beloved Arabic dishes the world over.

This dish is made from cow or sheep milk cheese. The cheese is fashioned into golf ball-sized bites and rolled into herbs or chili flakes. It is also enjoyed with diced tomatoes and onions.

Umm Ali

This Arabic dish is actually an Egyptian bread pudding. It is a hearty pastry cooked in cream and milk. Many different versions of this dish are made with croissant pieces, pistachios, vanilla, raisins and condensed milk.

This is a tangy salad and also one of the greatest contributions of Arabic cuisine to the world. It is made with Crispy lettuce, fried pita squares, diced tomatoes, cucumbers and onions. It is then seasoned with garlic, olive oil, lemon and mint. It is a refreshing salad to eat in hot summer months.

Baba Ghanoush

This is a popular dish made from aubergines. It is made with egg plants and spiced with chili flakes to give it a better kick than hummus. This one too is eaten as a dip with pita or falafels.

These are some of the most popular Arabic dishes to try from the Middle East. They have a unique way of cooking, but their ingredients used are mostly the same. Some of these dishes are very hot and spicy, while some are plain flavored.
