How Did The Term Vermicelli Rice Come Along?
The word “Vermicelli” actually comes from the word “varmi”, meaning wheat. The word “Rice” comes from the Greek word “rus” which means wheat. These two ingredients come together because they are similar in texture. Both are rich and hearty and can be mixed together or used separately for various dishes. In fact, many recipes use both these ingredients to give them a unique flavor.
What Is Vermicelli Rice Made From?
It is made by boiling wheat, rice, and/or flour with dried peas and onions in olive oil. Once these ingredients are combined in the appropriate proportions, they are left to sit for about 15 minutes, during which time the ingredients begin to steam and stick to the sides of the pot. While they are steaming, the ingredients are absorbing the flavors of each other.
The steam from the ingredients drips down the sides of the pot and the water leaves behind a white lather. When the time is up, the water and the rice are strained from the rice and then it is served.
